Current Events: All are Welcome to our Spring Open House - Thursday April 24 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Come visit our school, meet our staff and see some of our award winning Science Fair projects. CMS has had a great start to 2008. Autumn Bell placed first in the Peterborough Legion Speech contest, and Noah Storey places first in the Oshawa/ Whitby 2008 Regional Spelling Bee. For more information on these accomplishments please visit our "Events" page. 2008 Science Fair Results CMS students put on another impressive display at The 2008 Peterborough Regional Science Fair. Along with numerous personal awards and placings; CMS students won "Best Overall School" for both the Primary and Elementary Divisions. A Strong Foundation Early childhood education has come to accept today what Dr. Montessori discovered so long ago: "The child under the age of six has a great capacity for learning". In the mainstream education system, many concerned parents have noticed their child having difficulties with basic academic skills such as reading, math and writing. At The Children's Montessori School, students are introduced to these essential skills, phonics and arithmetic concepts are understood well before the age of six. At The Children's Montessori School, we strive to provide your child with a safe and caring place to learn, grow and have fun. Our goal is to help your child develop a positive attitude towards learning through the time tested Montessori method. Casa/Preschool — 2 1/2 to 5 years Elementary Grades — Grades 1-8 Our flexible Casa schedule includes full day or half day programs as well as extended care for working parents. At the age of 6, students proceed to our elementary level at which time increasingly abstract concepts are investigated. Our carefully designed curriculum includes phonics, math, science, computers, music, art, french language and more. Our elementary gym program includes track & field, gymnastics, horseback riding, tennis, soccer, swimming and tennis. Uniforms We believe that discipline and courtesy begin with good self esteem, grooming and proper dress. Accordingly, we have school uniform of which we are justly proud. Extended Care Program Extended care is available on a pre-arranged basis to those families requiring care for their child prior to or after school hours. Children are given the opportunity for free play under caring supervision.
